I am delighted to have been asked by Joe to chair his Testimonial Committee as I, like many other followers of Worcestershire CCC I’m sure, am keen to demonstrate my appreciation of his efforts for the club over the last decade or so.

In an era of franchise cricket, frequent inter-county player movement and growing instability in our game, players like Joe ‘The Bison’ Leach are becoming an endangered species.

The sight of his bulky frame pounding in from The Diglis End over after over, straining every sinew, has become so familiar to the New Road faithful that there is a danger of it being taken for granted. However, add to his 450 first-class wickets nearly 4000 runs and five years as captain, and it is clear that Joe’s contribution to the cause goes way beyond just being a recognisable part of the scenery.

Whilst the Testimonial Year clearly represents an opportunity for supporters to express their admiration for his efforts, Joe is keen, I know, to use it as a way to stage a series of events which will offer enjoyable and worthwhile experiences to all concerned. It is also the intention of the committee to support via the Testimonial at least one charity with local connections and to make a significant contribution to the work of The Professional Cricketers’ Trust.

If you feel able to contribute in any capacity whatsoever- by sponsoring an event, offering an auction item or raffle prize, or simply attending a function please do not hesitate to get in touch via the designated email address.

Looking forward to a great year for The Bison on and off the field…

"His presence in the changing room is a masterclass of being a leader and driving himself and his team on no matter what the situation. The levels of care he shows to his team mates, the passion he displays and the humour he delivers (mostly self deprecating thankfully) make him a great bloke and someone you want on your team everyday of the week. This for me is why he is so worthy of this testimonial and every success that comes his way."
