"Joe continues to be an outstanding servant, to the game and to Worcestershire County Cricket Club. His record speaks for itself and he is feared around the circuit, especially if you are an opening batter. Having started out as more of a batter that bowled, we all know that Joe has high skill with the bat and he has shown that on numerous occasions."
I have the pleasure to write something about Joe whilst he goes ahead with his testimonial year.
Myself and Joe have known each other now for over a decade. We have gone through playing against each other in under age group cricket, to being on Worcestershire’s academy together, right the way through to making our debut for Worcestershire together in 2012. It’s been a great journey thus far and Joe absolutely deserves to be having a testimonial year.
Joe continues to be an outstanding servant, to the game and to Worcestershire County Cricket Club. His record speaks for itself and he is feared around the circuit, especially if you are an opening batter. Having started out as more of a batter that bowled, we all know that Joe has high skill with the bat and he has shown that on numerous occasions. I know whilst he is at the crease, the game will always move forward and he will always be looking to put pressure back onto the other team. I can only imagine the headaches it must cause for an opposition captain when he gets going.
He was a great leader for the club. He was forward thinking and always led from the front with his passion and determination to do well. He showed a great deal of care for individuals and always wanted what was best for that person.
He has become a go to man for me, whether that is needing a wicket, a slight change in tactics or just running ideas past. For that I will continue to be very grateful for. His loyalty to Worcester is something that shouldn’t ever be over looked as he has been an integral part of the journey whilst he has been at the club and as we move forward. Some have even described him as a cultural pillar of our group and that’s hard to argue with.
Away from cricket, Joe is a smart, bubbly and positive character. He makes time for anyone and I consider him to be a great friend. He is a loving father and husband.
All in all he’s just a bloody good bloke!
Joe, congratulations mate. I can’t tell you how pleased I am for you and this is recognition for all of your hard work. It’s thoroughly deserved.
You continue to lead within our dressing room and you epitomise the type of character it takes to be a Worcestershire player.
I hope I can play a small part in supporting you throughout the year, it’s something I’m really looking forward to. Well done mate!
